"With her knack for being in trouble's way, Sookie Stackhouse witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover, Eric Northman, and his "child" Pam are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot--which is much more complicated than she knows. Caught up once again in the politics of the vampire world, Sookie will learn that she is as much of a pawn as any ordinary human--and that there is a new queen on the board..."-- Provided by publisher.

Good next installment submitted by kgolden65 on August 4, 2011, 8:41pm Good to read another Sookie Stackhouse story.

Quality is waning... submitted by messelti on August 17, 2011, 11:48am These books are like candy, and I generally enjoy them but I'm getting the feeling that Charlaine Harris is pretty much over writing these books. Not as good as previous installments, downright sloppy writing in some parts.

Dead Reckoning submitted by risingg on November 11, 2011, 8:58am I think the previous review by messelti is right on. I LOVE Harris's work and have read absolutely everything she has written, but this book by far was the least interesting, intriguing, sexy and funny -- traits I totally enjoy about this author. I think perhaps she is done with this character and needs one last amazing book to end the series on a fabulous high note. I would hate Sookie's characer to end as a "fade away" or in a mediocre text.

Great series submitted by VickyB77 on July 25, 2012, 1:18pm As much as I love this universe, I'm kinda glad Harris is closing the series soon. They're gradually getting worse, and this just doesn't have the spark that drew me to the series in the beginning. I don't know if she's just out of ideas, or if she's too busy writing for the HBO series, but I'm not as impressed anymore. If I didn't have as much vested interest in the series thusfar, I probably wouldn't read any more.

More Southern vampires submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 17, 2012, 1:56pm The eleventh of Charlaine Harris' 12 Southern Vampire Mysteries, "Dead Reckoning" continues the adventures of part-fairy psychic waitress Sookie Stackhouse in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana.
In this one, Sookie asks someone to break her blood bond with Eric, although the two are still in love. Sookie must (yet again) survive an assassination attempt but get involved in one to kill a vampire.
Read the first ten Sookie books or you'll never understand the numerous, complex plot lines in this novel. Don't expect a nice, neat, complete ending, either. Even her 12th and latest novel in the series does not give us that.

Almost to the End submitted by majean on August 16, 2018, 6:05pm I agree with the other posters that this book is a bit tiresome. I, too, think that Harris has become tired of the characters and just trying to fulfill her contract at this point.
