Interesting woman, tale told dully
submitted by willow on June 24, 2015, 11:01pm
This book is about the life of a young Afghan woman under the Taliban, with a focus on the business she began to sew clothes to make the money her family needed to survive. Unfortunately the narrative by Lemmon is rather uninteresting. The characters are fairly one-dimensional and tend to run together.
I wish the story of life post-9/11 had been explored, especially how she developed her work since then. The story just stops abruptly.
Unfortunately the decision to tie this book in with Greg Mortenson has the potential to backfire after his scandal, but this seems a much more plausible story. Too bad the book wasn't more tightly written and edited.
