Powerful submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 22, 2012, 2:25pm The true story of transman Brandon Teena who was raped and murdered for being trans, this movie shows the reality of the bigotry and violence trans people face in this country. Even after his death, gays and lesbians in the US did not understand what Brandon Teena had suffered. "The Advocate" used female pronouns to describe him in their article about his death.

The story is compelling. However, the violence is very, very graphic and many viewers will find it too disturbing to watch.

I would have preferred to have an actual transman play a transman (rather than a cis-gendered woman, although Hilary Swank is an excellent actor).

Amazing acting submitted by Jae Garcia on August 8, 2022, 9:37pm I have watched this movie several times and every time I am beyond amazed with how Hilary Swank played a role most could never come close to making it believable. She is phenomenal!
