Surprisingly enjoyable submitted by adimarzo on June 20, 2011, 8:18am I never intended to read this book. I had heard the hype and at first I didn't want to buy into it. But once I started reading, I really enjoyed it. Amy is an excellent writer and very open and honest about how she raised her daughters. Her approach is very different to mine (and very different from many "Western" parents). But it provides good food for thought. It made me question how I parent, how I set expectations for my children, what I do to help them succeed and what "success" ultimately means.

cool submitted by tcaldera97 on June 22, 2011, 2:35pm cool

worth reading submitted by jayin on July 20, 2011, 2:56pm Since her daughters safely made it to the other side, who can really knock her choices. She fights a lot of battles I wouldn't choose to fight, but then I'm a "western" parent.

it changed my life submitted by jangmikyoung on June 17, 2012, 10:39pm I really loved this book and she doesn't mean to become strict, i think that this book is about how she changed...

awesome submitted by philiptv on August 10, 2012, 4:20pm I couldn't set this book down. I loved it.

What Is Childhood For? submitted by wendylv on August 23, 2012, 5:44pm This was a quick and enjoyable read! I feel like the hype preceding the book portrayed Amy Chua's parenting approach as iron-fisted and ratcheted up the media drama by omitting the rest of the story with her second daughter. My 12 year old son was intrigued by this book after he noticed 7 out of 10 kids in his advanced math class were Asian. He read it, I read it, and now I'm reading it to my 10 and 8 year old daughters. I think this book points out something I'd never really thought directly about: what exactly is childhood for? Is it a time to work hard and develop skills for adulthood or a time to play and enjoy not having any adult responsibilities? It's a question my whole family has enjoyed discussing.

Tiger mother submitted by KSB2013 on July 7, 2017, 12:40pm Enjoyed. Honest account.

Battle Hymn Of The Tiger Mother submitted by jaehoon on July 29, 2018, 8:54pm This book causes a lot of emotional responses. The author claims that she was meant to be funny while sharing her personal children rearing experience.

However, a lot of people interpreted the book as a parenting guide to raise a super competitive child. It is no wonder that some folks react to that notion strongly.

I would rather to take this book as a personal essay. And Amy was able to get her two daughters into their dream college. I am only curios why she didn't pick Yale over Harvard.

Ok submitted by crp on August 28, 2019, 10:28pm Offensive in some parts... not that great overall.
