Is there Life on Mars? submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on June 14, 2014, 1:30pm Detective Sam Tyler was hit by a car in 2006 and woke up in 1973. He now works in the local police department solving murders.
The show really demonstrates many of the huge changes, socially and technologically (not the mention the clothes and hair!) in the 40 years since then.
The improvements in social attitudes particularly struck me. The characters openly belittle a Deaf man, treating him as if he is stupid and mocking his use of a hearing aid (a huge one, by the way, as technology then was no where near as advanced as today). Racism is the norm, as is blatant sexism and sexual harassment. Being gay is still a crime and most character (except our hero) treat gay people as if they are evil and diseased.
