"A Touchstone Book."
A sequel to Earthly Joy follows the life of John Tradescant the Younger, who works as a gardener to King Charles I before fleeing to the Royalist colony of Virginia in order to protect his family, a decision that tests his botanical talents and involves him in the plight of Native Americans whose lives are threatened by colonial settlers.

The second and last of the series about the Tradescant family, "Virgin Earth" is about John Tradescant's son. The family is famous for introducing many plants to Britain from Virginia and for creating the collection that became the basis for the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.
In this book, Tradescant the younger has three wives and two children, but none of the family members have happy lives. The book also details how terribly English colonists treated the Native Americans in Virginia, including genocide, rape and concentration camps. Unlike most of Philippa Gregory's novels, this one is not about the royal family but is about less well-known historical figures during the turbulent 17th century.
