Uneven Farm Memoir submitted by sdunav on July 21, 2011, 1:37pm I love farm memoirs, in general, and this one had a lot of promise. It's the story of a couple who started a CSA in upstate NY - raising chickens, pigs, beef, a couple dairy cows, maple syrup, and vegetables and grains - all done with horse power.

I did really enjoy parts of this memoir - but in other parts, I couldn't help rolling my eyes at the author's purple prose (including her rhapsodies over spring mud), and I was uncomfortable about how rigid her husband seemed (he refused to use electricity in their house during a cold winter). Although it is uneven, it's more good than not, so check it out if you like reading about farm life.

Charming and Idyllic ... with a Tear-jerking Event submitted by sVfGI7Glt2pz7GZgVB90 on August 20, 2020, 12:01pm A hard-driving journalist gives up her career when she falls in love with a farmer and farming. The author and her husband cultivated strong working relationships with the animals on their farm and dealt with almost every possible situation. Their first milk cow was struck by dogs, they lost baby turkeys to a weasel, and they had to put their trusted draft horse, Silver, down when he fractured his leg. Kristin recognized she was truly becoming a farmer when she became less enthusiastic about loss of an animal or a crop to death of all kinds. She learned that death is simply the other facet of life.

Farm Acres Is the Life For ME?? submitted by Linda Rama on June 29, 2022, 8:37pm Captured in true love for hard times of devotion and work. A young Kristen learns that her husband's hard and practical ways are rewarding in the long run. She is exposed to challenges of farming and builds upon the community's strengths to keep her and her family energized and content.
