okay submitted by fairytale on August 13, 2013, 8:27pm This book has a funny concept, but I didn't think the humor really came through as much as it could have, in this book.
Cute book submitted by jmb.mlis on July 19, 2016, 11:41pm I don't love this illustration style as much as some of Peter's others.
Goofy role reversal submitted by FordAlpha on August 29, 2019, 9:44pm This funny book reverses the common tale of a child hoping to make friends with a wild animal. I agree with the previous reviewer that the potential humor of the tale isn't fully realized, but it is still a charming, goofy book good for numerous read-alouds, especially if you can get in character a bit as the young bear, Lucy, and her patient/exasperated mother. You'll also want to read the little boy's line ("squeak") in different tones of voice for best effect. The illustrations, with their wood-grain backgrounds, are very appealing.
