COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Mostly for fans submitted by cherylo on July 1, 2011, 9:57pm I wouldn't recomend this be anyone's first dip into the Doctor Who phenomena, but for fans it is a nice aperitif. If you are trying to introduce younger or skeptical viewers to Doctor Who, I might suggest trying The Infinite Quest first. I found the lack of facial expression on the animated characters distracting (particularly when the Doctor utters the iconic "Allons-y"), but the art design is otherwise intriguing.

The bonus disc is the best part submitted by chowcy on July 8, 2012, 12:12am The actual episode was mediocre. I found the animation to be ineffective, especially since it just couldn't seem to capture the many microexpressions of David Tennant. If it hadn't been animated, I'd say it was a pretty average episode of Doctor Who.

Fortunately, to make up for the episode, there's a bonus disc called "Doctor Who Greatest Moments" that comes with it. It's basically a documentary about the Doctor, his companions, and the monsters. It's about three hours long and I think it'd be really enjoyable for anyone who's watched all the episodes of the 9th and 10th doctors.

Area 51 submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on July 27, 2013, 11:59pm This animated version of the British science fiction series "Doctor Who" is really only something true fans will enjoy, although it is appropriate for children and not too scary (unlike some of the live-action episodes). David Tennant provides the voice for his character, the eleventh Doctor, who is traveling companion-less when he arrives in Nevada in 1958.

I appreciate that the show has a positive portrayal of a woman and of a Native American, given that it is set in 1958, and given how poorly science fiction in general has treated female characters and people of color. While this episode is fun, it is a bit disappointing to see "Doctor Who" fall into the sink hole of so many other science fiction shows by having an episode about Area 51, which (surprise!) involves aliens and the U.S. military.
