Where Europe Meets Asia submitted by Meginator on July 22, 2021, 9:22pm What surprised me most about this compilation is how strongly Greek music draws from Eastern influences, particularly in the use of certain modes not often found in Western composition. The album incorporates a few different styles, all drawing heavily on stringed instruments, but the overall feeling is relatively consistent across the artists. This definitely feels like music you could hear outside on a sunny afternoon or a warm evening, and it has an inherently friendly vibe to it once you get used to the different musical structures it employs. One track stood out for its incorporation of alternative rock elements with traditional instruments, which created a neat effect, especially in the context of the other tracks. The bonus album is fairly good as well, though I had trouble distinguishing the tracks, not being otherwise familiar with rebetika styles.
