Muppet Robin Hood - graphic novel submitted by Fevvers - STAR473 on July 31, 2016, 3:03am This was pretty amusing. The "casting" of the Muppet characters in the various roles was really fun. I was delighted to see my girl Janice as "Willa Scarlet" and getting a decent amount of attention. The art felt too on the drab side. The jokes were good, some were great. A meta/fourth-wall breaking gag in the manner of Monty Python was fun but not the greatest of its kind. In keeping with the spirit of The Muppet Show, there was some material aimed towards adults that would go right over kids' heads, or things that worked on two levels. The editing could have been better; there were some poor speech bubble placements, and one inconsistency in which a character is referred to as having been involved in the previous issue, but he wasn't - so that's down to either laziness or something getting cut but not cut entirely. One thing I did appreciate a lot was how this version of Robin Hood depicted Richard The Lionheart's character as much closer to historical fact than any other adaptation I've seen or read!

Quite a decent comic to pick up for younger readers and/or Muppet enthusiasts. It would be a good one to read along with a kid.

Jumbled Visual Experience submitted by Meginator on June 21, 2020, 4:52pm I’m a huge Muppet fan and I love the film adaptations of Treasure Island and A Christmas Carol, so I really wanted to like this. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. The book certainly does utilize the Muppets’ brand of gleeful chaos, but the character design feels off, a little too far removed from the Muppets’ real-world look. The panel layouts are often cluttered with speech bubbles and sometimes lack visual cues for approaching the dialogue; as a result, jokes feel out of place and a natural reading pattern yields conversations that feel wildly out of context until re-read in a different order. I don’t read a ton of comics, but I read enough to understand that artists have different ways of laying things out; nonetheless, I have never had this much difficulty approaching dialogue in a comic. The story is serviceable enough, minus a strange and self-indulgent detour near the end, and the characters are well-cast in their roles, but I just couldn’t get into this book’s visuals, and that’s a deal-breaker in a graphic novel.
