Read by Simon Vance.
Dr. Faraday is the son of a maid, who has built a life of quiet respectability as a country doctor. One dusty post-war summer in his home of rural Warwickshire, he is called to a patient at Hundreds Hall. Home to the Ayres family for over two centuries, the once grand Georgian house is now in decline. But are the Ayres haunted by something more sinister than a dying way of life? Little does Dr. Faraday know how closely, and how terrifyingly, their story is about to become entwined with his.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Mysterious submitted by sushai on June 30, 2019, 7:26am I was going to start my review out with a little complaint about how Waters' books tend to be overly long, but had to stop myself because I think in a way I actually like that. It does take a long time to get through one, but she takes her time building characters and story, and in the end I'm sad it's over.
Not only that, but with this particular book (which I listened to--great audio version) I feel like clues were being left along the way, and now I want to go back and see how many I can find.

I don't want to say too much about the book; I think its interpretation may vary from person to person, but I did feel like it was somewhat of an homage to Turn of the Screw and enjoyed trudging through its darkness.
