Wonderful Read Aloud submitted by jllawren on July 25, 2011, 3:18pm Interrupting chicken is a beautiful, creative story based upon a knock-knock joke. This fabulous read-aloud takes three famous fairy tales and adds an enthusiastic little red chicken who simply can't listen quietly to the story. Sweet and funny Interrupting Chicken is fun to read over and over again. Perfect for Grades K-3.

right on the mark submitted by krayla on June 21, 2014, 8:47pm I thought this story was hilarious! What kid (or adult) doesn't sometimes change the story to their liking? This is a great book to read aloud to a small group or sharing with puppets!

Peep the Meta-Story submitted by Meginator on August 11, 2021, 5:18pm This charming picture book follows a couple of chickens who have difficulty making it all the way through a handful of classic fairy tales at bedtime (as an interrupting chicken myself, I can sympathize). Stein cleverly offers alternate takes on these familiar stories while presenting them in the context of a broader narrative with its own amusing twist that will particularly please readers (or listeners, as this would be a great read-aloud) who mysteriously become particularly excitable just as it is time to wind down (again, I can relate). I especially loved the illustrations and particularly Stein’s use of color and blending techniques; the pictures have texture and depth to them and are lovely to look at even as they advance the story. This one is a winner.
