Safety Smart Science with Bill Nye the Science Guy explores the science of safety by going behind the scenes at Underwriters Laboratories and discovering how products that use electricity are fire-tested to ensure they meet safety standards. By explaining the science of fire, including the roles heat, fuel, and oxygen play, Bill demonstrates how fire can be helpful as well as destructive.

Science Guy 2.0 submitted by cherylo on August 1, 2011, 4:20pm This video features a slightly more mature Science Guy and a higher level of scientific/engineering cred than the original Bill Nye series, because Underwriter's Laboratories is in on the action. Discusses fire and fire safety, as well as heat transfer by conduction, radiation, and convection. There is still a healthy dose of comedy to make the science more memorable. I especially appreciated that it discusses the differences between grease fires and other fires (because throwing water on a grease or electrical fire is the wrong thing to do...it provides more oxygen to those fires.)

I have basically watched every episode of Bill Nye the Science Guy and they tend to have the same format with experiments you can try at home, explanations by Bill Nye and a rather cheesy and corny song at the end.

This is more of the high school version of the series but it does cover many things that most middle schoolers learn in eighth grade phyiscal science-about heat.
