Weakest entry of the series. submitted by eknapp on September 22, 2012, 10:53pm SPOILERS!!!

Fatal Error isn't a story, it's a collation document. It's sole purpose is to collect and tie up all the loose plot threads of the last thirteen books. I suspect that the next (and purportedly final) Repairman Jack volume will feel much the same. F Paul Wilson kind of painted himself into a corner when he penned the end of the saga (Reprisal, Nightworld) so long ago.

Fatal Error's flimsy plot wrapper consists of an attempt to finally destroy the Lady by taking down the internet--and hence, the noosphere--with a computer virus and some Semtex. Meanwhile, Dawn has her monster-baby; Eddy screws up and finds himself on the Septimus Order's hit list; Weezy, Jack, Veilleur and the Lady have a lot of meetings, and the world generally goes to hell in a handbasket.

Wilson does throw a few concessions Jack's way, allowing him to beat down assorted kidnappers, goons, and misogynistic sons of bitches. These are simultaneously the best parts of the book and the most painfully contrived. Wilson spends the rest of the pages carefully and obviously shepherding characters into position for the already-published finale. There were so many references to the Adversary Cycle and the YA Jack-and-Weezy books that I lost count.

Okay reading for Repairman Jack completionists but it is definitely the worst of the series. Wilson seems to be just trying to get it over with at this point.
