Not Enough Action for Most Reluctant Readers
This is a rather meandering but charming story about a reluctant 12 y.o. reader who gets into trouble a lot - ADHD is implied but never stated. Derek has a mysterious death in his past, and is doomed to a summer vacation with "Learning Camp" and a best friend on the other side of the US. I enjoyed it - and the cartoons in the margin (illustrating Derek's new vocabulary words) are a wonderful touch - but the story doesn't move as quickly as my reluctant reader would like. It may still appeal to some kids, especially boys.
