When a family of bonobo apes who know American Sign Language are kidnapped from a language laboratory, their mysterious appearance on a reality TV show propels scientist Isabel Duncan, together with reporter John Thigpen, on a personal mission to rescue them. An entertaining book that calls into question our assumptions about these animals who share 99.4% of our DNA.

Fascinating and well done submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on July 11, 2014, 2:25pm I really liked this book. First, it's based on the fascinating language capabilities of the bonobos (chimp-like apes that are matriarchal and peaceful, rather than the patriarchal and violence-prone chimps). Second, the humans in the story make reasonable decisions based on events around them, but they create unexpected alliances and unforeseen crossroads, which make for a fascinating story. It's interesting and well done, and should be added to your "to read" list!

Weird and great submitted by KOH on August 12, 2017, 7:41pm What an interesting book! I liked the characters and was invested in the story. It's a page-turner!
