So what would happen, geopolitically, if the U.S. was suddenly (mostly) gone? submitted by hathaway1066 on July 23, 2017, 12:06pm The exact reason(s) for the U.S. being suddenly 'gone' are not a key part of this novel's story. It's more about what that would do to the various alliances and regional balances of power.

If you like a good game of 'Risk' this is a book for you.

It's unabashedly pro-Pax Americana, btw.

Birmingham always writes a good page-turner and this is no exception, but it has a bit more of a tilt towards the U.S. as leader of the 'good guys', 'others' as 'bad guy(s)' dichotomy. There's not a lot of 'grey' in the world-view of this book or series.
