Basics of brioche knitting submitted by gwyneth on June 11, 2023, 7:38pm Marchant explains the basics techniques of brioche knitting and the terminology she prefers to use. I don't think her terminology is always very well thought out, especially when it comes to naming the different sides of the fabric; I don't see any need to insist on "light side" and "dark side" terminology rather than the much more standard "right side" and "wrong side". There are plenty of other stitches (garter stitch, many types of ribbing, etc.) that are also fully reversible, and we routinely use RS/WS notations with those stitches. In any case, most brioche knitting that involves increases and decreases does have a right side and wrong side: it is not fully reversible. I've also watched several of Marchant's videos on Youtube and on Blueprint/Craftsy, and ultimately I think that while she is a very skilled knitter and good at coming up with interesting stitch designs, she is not really a great teacher. I recommend Lesley Anne Robinson's "Brioche Knitting for Beginners and Beyond" for clear instructions for brioche knitting.
