Very Cool Mix submitted by pkooger on April 19, 2011, 10:14am Like any compilation of musical artists, Horizon Line: Ghostly By Night has a wide range of styles and sounds. I enjoyed the collection as a whole, but I would have to say that for me there are five songs that rise above the rest.
The first is Operation Costs by Lusine, a haunting piece which is entirely instrumental except for a distorted murmur of indistinguishable words in the background.
Very similiar in mellow sound and mood is Plans That Fade, by Pale Sketcher.
The third song I enjoyed is Mowgli the Lynx, by Deastro. This song's bouncy melody and upbeat rhythm make it the polar opposite of the first two.
Next on my list is Lusine's remix of a School of Seven Bells song, Half Asleep. This song was my favorite of the entire album. Lusine takes the dreamy beat of the original and makes it even more creamy and delicious. I've had the song on repeat for the past two days.
The last on my list is Claustrophobia, by Choir of Young Believers, remixed by Peter Antlers. A simple beat and a catchy melody hooked me even before the harmony of the vocals started.
I highly recommend this album as a sampler of some of the music coming from Ghostly International, most of which is available from Ann Arbor District Library.
