almost a 5 star submitted by hathaway1066 on July 14, 2014, 7:53pm I'd have given this a full 5 stars but I shy away from doing so as the author, while giving many, many REALLY useful, solid, concrete tips for how to improve teaching, falls into a bit of the Michelle Rhee 'school' of thought, with a do-more/be-more approach to school improvement that doesn't look beyond teachers and their ability to improve outcomes. Maybe that's not the focus--it IS usefully focused teachers--but I'd like if there were some consideration of how schools/society need to support what a good teacher does in the classroom, not just measure and judge that teacher's students' outcomes.

(Okay, enough with editorial, maybe...)

All that said, I bought the book and plan to invest a good deal of time in going back over it and working it's ideas into what I do in the classroom, and I thanks Lemov for his having broken new ground by giving such clear and concrete tips on how to improve instruction and classroom management.
