"The year was 2014. We had cured cancer. We had beaten the common cold. But in doing so we had created something new, something terrible that no one could stop. The infection spread, virus blocks taking over bodies and minds with one, unstoppable command: FEED. Now, twenty years after the Rising, Georgia and Shaun Mason are on the trail of the biggest story of their lives--the dark conspiracy behind the infected. The truth will [come] out, even if it kills them."--P. [4] of cover.

New favorite zombie book. submitted by miss pyro on June 29, 2011, 1:09pm I love this book so much. It's blogging about zombies. And presidential elections with zombies. And all these horrible things with zombies. This is one book where who DOESN'T die is more of a spoiler than who DOES die. And trust me, a lot of people die.

Rock-solid zombie/political-conspiracy novel. submitted by eknapp on November 9, 2011, 3:28pm In 2040, a trio of young journalists following a presidential candidate become the targets of repeated assassination attempts, mostly involving zombies.

It's not really an apocalypse story...zombies do wreak some havoc but it's really about how society changes in order to live with the ever-present threat of the chompy undead. The security protocols are so extensive and intrusive that they actually began to detract from the story...it became hard to see how society could have survived at all. Still, good stuff and I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Zombie vs Politician submitted by basketcasemom on August 28, 2013, 8:33pm You will be hard pressed to decide who you would rather shoot. This is a great story. The amusing cultural references to well known television characters made me laugh. Warning: you will also cry.

Wonderful and different submitted by debbifs on June 21, 2016, 9:11am The first in a trilogy, Feed is a wonderful example of worldbuilding, humor and social commentary. Highly recommended.

Kind of formulaic submitted by valeriemates on June 19, 2020, 10:18pm This book was written in 2010 and takes place in the years 2039 and 2040. It was fun to see how the author's future diverged from our own real future -- especially since both the real timeline and the story's timeline include a pandemic, but the two pandemics are very different from each other. It was also interesting to see how technology diverged in the book's timeline compared to reality.

What I struggled with is that the main character didn't feel very likeable to me. She went on and on endlessly about how important it is for a news reporter to always report the truth. I fervently share her value on that, so I would have expected to like her, but she felt to me more like a formula than like a person, so a lot of the book felt endlessly repetitive. I kept *almost* deciding to skip a chunk of pages, but then I never did, and maybe I should have. The book was only rarely enjoyable.

The ending the author chose for the book surprised me. Really, it was the only possible way that this book could have ended, but still I was surprised by it.

Anyway, overall I thought this book was surprisingly plodding for a vampire story. I've read books that were much worse, but I have also read books that I enjoyed a lot more.
