My friend Zack has a disability called autism. But that doesn't matter to us. We talk about airplanes, build models, and enjoy hanging out at each other's house. I'm glad Zack is my friend!

A book about acceptance submitted by Juliesharp91 on July 14, 2021, 5:45pm A very lovely story about neurodiversity and acceptance. Autistic people often work very well in many libraries that I have worked in or that I know of. They may have good memorization skills, visual memory skills, and systems for organizing that make them excellent library employees. They also may struggled with social skills leading to bullying and have to difficulty with executive functioning skills. One autistic coworker was fired at AADL after supervisors did not want to accommodate his needs, after coworkers united against him, his supervisor deliberately scheduled him for times that said he could not work due to their class schedule so they would have cause to fire them. There were other employees as well who could easily sue for wrongful termination due to failure to accommodate disabilities.

Good for Understanding the Classic Version of Autism submitted by jgerman79 on August 19, 2022, 11:54am A nice book about understanding that autistic children / children with autism can be good friends when you know they will not act the same way as most of your friends do and that is okay.
