Fun with Local Archives

This is great local history augmented with plenty of primary documents (newspaper articles, photographs, excerpts from letters) -sometimes a bit dry, but often surprising and funny. The "Underwear Club" was a group of women who worked at the Ypsilanti Underwear factory (which made union suits, tights, etc.) which closed in the sometime before 1910. Some of the workers had reunions in a local park until the early 40's.

Unless you're interested in the area, or like browsing historical tidbits - the kind of thing you might find in a family attic - you probably won't be terribly interested in this. But I had lots of fun reading a couple chapters every few days, including stories on murders in the 1930's, the campaign to permit yellow oleomargarine in 1951, and the local TB sanitarium. I'm looking forward to more by Bien in the future!
