quirky delightful film submitted by kemeyer on June 27, 2011, 7:59am Unlike any film I've every seen, The black Balloon is a delightful quirky story of a loving family and one teenage boy's coming of age while enduring the embarrassment of his autistic brother's behavior. The acting is dead on and all of the characters are endearing despite their many flaws. One can't forget the unusual scenes of Thomas and Charlie running through the streets in their underwear, Charlie spreading poop on the rug, Thomas discomfort in his yellow saggy swimsuit and the excitement of young love in swim class as Thomas and Jackie practice mouth to mouth resuscitation. Taking place in Australia with its lush vegetation, the film feels exotic yet is very down to earth.
