COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Not befitting a Pullman novel submitted by marshd on September 24, 2010, 7:08pm I love Pullman's other works, but this lacks the really intriguing imagination of them. While I found the concept originally interesting, the book didn't seem to flush it out.

It lacked a sense of drama or action, which was probably intended, as it reads something like a Gospel. However, it just didn't keep my attention without the normal fantastical elements Pullman is so great with.

Disappointing submitted by lizgiessner on August 4, 2023, 7:31pm This is the story of Jesus having been born as a twin. His brother Christ is the main character, and he is guided by a mysterious friend who he colludes with to write a fictitious foundation for Christianity. I kept expecting more from the book. Ultimately it was just a weird, slightly creative look at how stories are told and remembered. The interspersed criticisms of religion and human nature didn't offer anything new.
