A personal insight into Autism submitted by bchapman630 on July 14, 2013, 7:45am There is something almost spellbinding about Temple Grandin's writing style. She writes with such honesty and description that it makes it impossible to not be interested in hearing about how her mind processes social, sensory and logical information. This was the first book of Prof Grandin's that I had read and I learned an incredible amount about autism from a very personalized, intelligent perspective. Everyone on the autism spectrum has a different experience, but the author is able to capture very specific examples, emotions (or lack there of) and experiences where she learned how to be "more functional" based on trial and error (as well as through observation) socially. Excellent book about an incredible woman. I gained a greater compassion for those who are struggling internally but appear to "have it together" on the outside. She works very hard to fit into society and this book eloquently and articulately describes her life process of learning and personal growth.
amazing submitted by KSB2013 on July 10, 2016, 10:09pm Dr. Grandin has so much insight in to the world of autism but also knowledgable in behaviors and mind.
Seeing the world from another's view submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 18, 2021, 9:09pm A fascinating book by an autistic woman with a successful career and an excellent ability to convey how the world appears from her perspective. I thought it would be more about her work (designing equipment used with cattle and other animals), which interested me quite a bit. It turned out to be more heavily focused on autism than I expected, but was well done all the way through and kept my interest more than I'd have anticipated.
