After the brief but deadly Faery War, Sookie Stackhouse is hurt and she's angry. Just about the only bright spot in her life is the love she thinks she feels for vampire Eric Northman who is under scrutiny by the new Vampire King because of their relationship. And as the political implications of the Shifters coming out are beginning to be felt, Sookie's connection to the Shreveport pack draws her into the debate and up against a Fae who wants her dead.

Hmmm... submitted by VickyB77 on July 25, 2012, 1:43pm I love this universe, but this just doesn't have the spark that drew me to the series in the beginning. I don't know if she's just out of ideas, or if she's too busy writing for the HBO series, but I'm not as impressed anymore.

Interesting submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 17, 2012, 1:47pm The tenth of Charlaine Harris' 12 Southern Vampire Mysteries, "Dead in the Family" continues the adventures of part-fairy psychic waitress Sookie Stackhouse in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana.
This one features Eric's maker, who has also turned Alexei Romanov (that's why no one ever found the little prince's body!), is in Louisiana to try to get the Viking back under his control. Bill is dying from silver poisoning after saving Sookie's life, and Vampire King Victor wants Bill, Eric and his progeny Pam dead.
Read the first nine Sookie books or you'll never understand the numerous, complex plot lines in this novel. Don't expect a nice, neat, complete ending, either. Even her 12th and latest novel in the series does not give us that.

It was okay submitted by Jacy on June 16, 2013, 3:19pm Another Sookie Stackhouse book, not the best in the series

And it keeps going submitted by kadams7 on August 25, 2014, 8:50pm She starts to get a little repetitive in her details. The books seem to be that they are meant to stand alone. You could pick up anyone in the series and know the relationships between the characters and how they are "special."

Charlaine Harris submitted by majean on August 16, 2018, 5:01pm I met Charlaine Harris when this book came out and have a signed copy. It was a fun afternoon!
