Retcon submitted by Spidon on June 20, 2011, 10:00am Geoff Johns is a man with a plan. In an effort to elaborate upon the "War of Light" and "Blackest Night" prophecies he wrote into the Green Lantern lore, he rewrote Hal Jordan's origin story to include some extra details. While most comicbook fans moan and groan about the ever-present "retcons" (retroactive continuity) in comics, this is one of the few that works. The original story was vague enough that any of these new events could easily have occurred between the pages.
For new readers, this is an absolute must read. It is an easy-to-find source for the origin story of Hal Jordan as the Green Lantern, and it introduces the ideas of the prophecies/story that played a major part in keeping DC comics in business last year.

Bottom line is, if you are interested in the man who becomes Green Lantern. This is the best place to start, and skip 50 years of comicbook continuity.
