"This picture book is a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the momentous Woolworth's lunch counter sit-in, when four college students staged a peaceful protest that became a defining moment in the struggle for racial equality and the growing civil rights movement."--Amazon.com.

Sit-In submitted by poptart887 on August 4, 2020, 4:33pm Love this story about standing up for what is right. This book teaches to stand up and to be peaceful about it. Be confident in yourself and love those who show hate. Great role models the four main characters make! All they wanted was a doughnut and coffee with cream on the side, yet they were not served because it was WHITES ONLY. Their actions sparked SIT-INS in other restaurants in other towns. Eventually the president noticed and the Civil Rights Act was passed. The timeline in the back of the book is great; gives a rundown of major events leading up to the Civil Rights Act. There's also a picture of the actual students from the book in the back with some background on them.
