Not the best story submitted by ejmarcash on August 30, 2012, 8:44am Hmm, so everyone has to follow the rules except for kittens? Not the best message for kids but, something to look forward to when they get older. This wouldn't be my choice for a bedtime story.
Hmm...Nah.. submitted by rimpopu on July 9, 2013, 7:55am I don't know what to make of the story. In my daughter's words 'it is so silly'. We usually love Caldecott Medal and Honor winner books. I was surprised that this book got one too. It is must be due to illustration because the story is not really teaching anything good to kids. After reading other winners with animals and human themes like A Sick Day for Amos McGee, Click, Clack, Moo, etc., this book is just a blah. The main character is a brat even though it is a kitten brought like a girl by humans. Even though the theme seems to be same rules don't apply for everyone, everyone must have freedom to follow their own rules, rules are stodgy, etc., I don't think it is written in appropriate manner to make it more fun with good humor. It just comes across as the kitten doesn't follow any rules or manners, and gets away with it. I wouldn't recommend it.
