By looking at what happens to the things thrown away and recycled in young Paul's home and school, The Three R's covers recycling and waste basics.
Roca's text simply explains the reasoning behind and the process of recycling in a way that makes comprehension easy, and seems ideally suited for late elementary students. However, the pencil and watercolor illustrations and the focus on a young boy makes it seems as though this books intended audience is pre-school or young elementary students. While these young listeners will be able to follow the basics of Paul's story, each page has too much text on it to hold most young children's interest. And though the educational content would be appropriate for late elementary readers, they will likely find the format in which it is presented babyish.
