When i was a kid, I read all the Oz books that my local public library had, and I watched the movie on TV every year. I decided to use these graphic novel adaptations as a way to re-familiarize myself with the stories. In this adaptation, the story kind of choppy. The art was okay, but the style is not really my cup of tea - a little too scribbly for me (reminds me of Old Black Fly, which I never much liked), and there are aspects to the main characters that bugged me (esp the cowardly lion).

Don't Pass It By

If you love the uniqueness and wimzy of the original movie. You will love the epic adventure in this graphic novel. It is filled with some familiar characters and some new characters, all of which are wonderfully strange. Having never read the original novel (and having only seen the dated movie version) I loved the little parts in the story that never made it to the big screen. Like the relationship between the witch and the flying monkeys is way different then in the movie. You read to find out. In addition, if you like this graphic novel, Marvel comics has the next two books in the series too. They are called "The Marvelous Land of Oz" and "Ozma of Oz". I love them all!

Great Graphic Novel!
