A Great Little Movie submitted by Jan Wolter on July 8, 2013, 8:38am In this little fantasy, H. G. Wells has built an actual time machine, and is about to give it its first test, when Jack the Ripper steals it to escape into the future. Convinced that he has unleashed a monster upon the utopia he expects to find in the future, Wells sets off in pursuit. McDowell's portrayal of Wells is both charming and vaguely accurate, and it's great fun to find this slight bookish fellow pursue a ruthless killer through the unexpected wonders of the world of the present (well, 1979). The romantic subplot is also charming. There is little gore though - after all, Jack the Ripper is in it.

Entertaining. submitted by lmangus on August 23, 2021, 1:11pm Imagine: Well's The Time Machine jumps into the future/past. What starts out as a period piece with Wells hosting a reveal of his time machine concept, quickly transitions into scifi fiction, with what seems like special/sound effect nods to the original Star Trek series and a dramatic sweeping score/soundtrack to match. Fantastic vintage points of interest, clothing, hair and makeup, club/disco scene. This was Mary Steenburgen's second film , and she won Best Actress at the Saturn Awards for her role. The end had us thinking of Back to the Future III. Fun concept film.
