Quirky but good submitted by unknown on June 23, 2018, 12:05pm When Old Lady Dowdel next door suspects her outhouse is about to be blown up as a Halloween prank, she comes up with an interesting prevention. Her more conventional next-door neighbors find her quirky and just plain weird, until she comes up with solutions to their problems throughout the years and endears herself to them, and becomes a part of their family. Deals with bullying, vandalism, juvenile crime, discipline, social class and trying to fit in, but all in ways that are unique, surprising, and successful. Highly recommend.

A wonderful book submitted by hduke on June 22, 2019, 12:14pm A tale of generosity and kindness, full of humor and heart. Do yourself a favor and read this book. I love A Long Way from Chicago and A Year Down Yonder, but a Season of Gifts might be my favorite book staring Grandma Dowel.

Great Storytelling submitted by gem on August 29, 2019, 6:30am I did not read any of the other books with Mrs. Dowdel before reading this one. This one is self-contained, but now I do want to read the others. This was a very enjoyable read and it was easy to put yourself in the shoes of the various characters in the story. For me it was worth the read.
