A quiet tale
submitted by carr1_e on July 24, 2011, 7:54am
This was a very quiet book. It tells the story (if you could call it that) of Liam, a 60 year old philosopher/grade school teacher who is forced into early retirement. He moves into a smaller apartment and proceeds to ponder his relationships: with his two past wives, his three daughters, his grandson, and someone new that he meets.
The title, of course, refers to the Biblical story of Noah, who doesn't need a compass, he just floats adrift. In this book we watch Liam floating in a similar way. But somehow, it works. And perhaps he, too, finds land.
