COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Worst story in the NuWho official continuity universe IMHO submitted by cherylo on July 3, 2013, 11:25pm Before this mini-series first became available in the US, I eagerly anticipated its availability. Torchwood had started out uneven but fun in its first series, and improved considerably for the second. This story served as its third outing. The writing made me wince and yell at the TV. Characters are introduced only to be used as pawns to tug at the viewers' emotions later in the story. Stupid decisions leading to horrible consequences are laden throughout, including ones that lead to the death and moral compromise of its principals. Russell T. Davies, the then-showrunner of Doctor Who and creator of Torchwood made writing choices that have me considering him to be one of the meanest, jerkiest TV writers ever. I might have quit my beloved Doctor Who if he had continued to run it after I saw this monstrosity. I recommend it only for the Whoniverse completist or those who prefer RTD's Doctor Who to the series since he left and Stephen Moffat took over, ie., only if you vastly prefer David Tenant's Tenth Doctor to that of Matt Smith's Eleventh.

Sad and disturbing. submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on July 27, 2013, 11:54am "Children of Earth" continues the "Torchwood" series and stands in as the third season, in many fans' minds. The three remaining team members--Jack, Gwen and Ianto--are still trying to protect the Earth from alien menace, when suddenly children everywhere begin to simultaneously chant "We. We are. We are coming." The next day, children chant numbers, different ones in each country. The numbers turn out to be the number of children in 10 percent of the nation's population of children.
Meanwhile, some government entity is trying to kill Jack, for reasons that are at first mysterious but become clear later.
This series is very disturbing, including threats to children, violence and nudity. I recommend that no one under 18 watch it.
