Eoin Colfer, you are no Douglas Adams
submitted by camelsamba on July 12, 2011, 4:57pm
This is the 6th book in the Hitchhiker's Guide "Trilogy". It was written by Eoin Colfer, after Douglas Adams' death.
Eoin Colfer writing like Douglas Adams is not as humorous as Adams himself, or else I'm getting old. I felt like this book was twice as long as it needed to be - it really only got interesting to me in the second half. My 12yo son told me that I should make sure I'd read book #5 before reading this, so maybe that's the problem. After all, paying homage to the title:
"And another thing...," she [Fenchurch:] said.
"What other thing?" Arthur wanted to ask. "And what thing came before the other thing? Tell me about all the things in order."
Or maybe Eoin Colfer trying to write like Douglas Adams simply is not as humorous as Adams himself, and it wouldn't have mattered if I'd read book #5 first!
Sadly disappointing submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 20, 2012, 12:56pm I love Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's Guide" series, which is why I found this book so disappointing. I very much enjoyed Eoin Colfer's other novels, but somehow "And Another Thing" fell flat. Colfer does not capture Adam's prose or humor. I couldn't get into the plot or get interested in the characters again, although I longed to read of their continuing adventures. I never finished this book because it simply didn't feel like it was worth the time.
