Well worth the read submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on August 13, 2013, 9:53pm I must admit, I was pretty amazed that the author's first novel took on a free-thinking teen in a conservative, fundamentalist Christian church. But she did it in such an honest way ("Why won't the sky open up and God's voice speak to me, too?") that it felt real and accessible. And then, y'know, Emma spends time at the local gathering of people waiting for the new donut place to open and meets a born-again motorcycle gang who provide perspective from the most unlikely of sources.

In the end it is about friendships, and openness, and second chances. And that was pretty cool.

Helpful submitted by gracej on June 30, 2014, 11:14pm I am non-religious and this book helped me to better understand religious people, while still maintaining a lighthearted feel. I liked this book and would recommend it.
