magnificent!
The rhymes and rhythm of this story are magnificent. And it has a touch of silliness as you would expect from Margaret Mahy. Mabel blows a bubble that carries off her baby brother. How will he be rescued? Watch out for Abel:
But Abel, though a treble, was a rascal and a rebel,
fond of getting into trouble when he didn't have to sing.
His nefarious intentions and a pebble in his sling are counteracted by quick thinking on the part of Mabel, Tybal, Greville, and the jogger (christened Neville). How do they do it? You'll have to read the book to find out about what the people there still prattle (there is lots of tittle-tattle).
