On the eve of publisher Mikael Blomkvist's story about sex trafficking between Eastern Europe and Sweden, two investigating reporters are murdered. And even more shocking for Mikael Blomkvist: the fingerprints found on the murder weapon belong to Lisbeth Salander--the troubled, wise-beyond-her-years genius hacker who came to his aid years before.

what joy thinks submitted by joiemma on July 1, 2011, 7:15pm good

Scandinavian mystery submitted by kgolden65 on August 3, 2011, 9:47pm A great continuation of the story, with more of a focus on Lisbeth Salander. She is a new type of heroine who is very likable. I enjoyed this book as much as the first in the trilogy with one exception--the end was unresolved with the story directly leading into the final book.

Outstanding submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on July 14, 2014, 7:55pm Another outstanding book. An excellent mystery. Deep characters. Enough cast to provide many different angles to the story, but not so many that I couldn't keep track of them. Interesting conflicts at many different levels. Great storytelling that kept me wanting more throughout the book.

Start with _The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo_, though.

Deeper and Deeper submitted by Meginator on July 3, 2017, 11:16pm What I really appreciated about this novel was the way in which Stieg Larsson dove deeper into Lisbeth Salander's psyche, making for a mystery novel with real stakes for readers. His characters are captivating and charming and the overall series plot continues to thicken in this middle novel, which does a good job of bridging the trilogy's beginning and end while adding its own wrinkles to the overarching storylines.

Great book submitted by Rebeca Hernandez on July 7, 2017, 9:34pm I couldn't get the first book of the series, so I started with with one. It is a great book! It really got me into the story and the end keeps you asking for more! My next book will be the first one, to see if I can relate some of the story of the second book with the first one or if they are independent stories. Anyways, you have to read it.

Worth continuing the series submitted by gladaaro on June 22, 2018, 10:12am As Larsson's second book in his trilogy, this is not as great as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but it is still a superb book. It will be enough to satisfy your cravings for Lisbeth Salander and Mike Blomkvist. Plus it is just as thrilling as a stand alone book.

Hated it submitted by EJZ on July 23, 2018, 8:12pm Really quite bad. If this is a mystery or detective novel at its core, and I would say it is, the characters make leap after leap of logic, defying all possible sense, and with the slimmest of clues or no clues at all, they unravel the hidden story surrounding their events. The main characters are superhuman in every sense, and extremely two-dimensional. The love affairs and extraneous plot lines feel tacked-on at best.

Loved it! submitted by TLW1998 on July 11, 2019, 10:48pm Great book, great series, hard to put down
