England in the 1960s submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 27, 2012, 11:53am In a fairly realistic portrayal of northeastern England in the 1960s, Detective George Gently of Scotland yard sweeps into town to solve a murder, but the work is not nearly as easy as he expected. For one, he cannot understand the local "Geordie" accent and has to have a sergeant assigned to him to translate the local slang (viewers may recognize the actor from "Harry Potter").
The series shows the sexism, racism and other prejudices of the era, as well as the police corruption and unhappiness it all brought.

Bomber's Moon submitted by willow on August 25, 2015, 9:05pm The discovery of the body of a German businessman who'd been visited at a local farm during the war leads Inspector Gently to find out more about what happened in the past and more recently, and whether this was a family dispute over money, anti-German hatred, a personal dispute, or something else entirely.
