Narrated by Mark Feurstein.
When a wealthy man first meets his mail-order bride in 1907, he realizes this statuesque beauty is anything but a "simple missionary's daughter." But he doesn't know of her devious plan to leave Wisconsin as a rich widow. Nor does she know of the furious demons he longs to unleash during the lonely months of snowbound isolation.

Truly awful. submitted by amyko on October 31, 2012, 3:21pm This book on tape sounded so promising...alas... It was not only just depressing...but, includes a really distasteful plot. I suppose if you want to hear a story about how two soulless people meet and show the worst side of humanity then this is for you. If you’d prefer not to waste precious hours of your life you’ll never get back hearing a story that doesn’t make you think, that doesn’t entertain you, and from which you’ll learn nothing – then move on. I don’t know what was worse – the lack of character development, the story, the prose, or the characters themselves. I won’t spoil the plot – but, suffice it to say that this book offers you less than zero. I did give it more than one try too – I drive 2-3 hours a day to work so despite my disgust I still hit ‘play’ when M-14 locked up and I couldn’t stand the radio anymore… I will say the more I listened the more I hated this book. Anyway, you get the point…
