Palimpset by Cathrynne Valente

A select few people find themselves, when asleep, visiting another world, the fantastic, dangerous, beautiful city of Palimpsest. People spread this secret knowledge through sexual contact - this is a very sensual book, in every sense of the word. The questions are: What is truly real? How do those who want to keep visiting Palimpsest find ways to do that? Who truly belongs there, and why? Will Palimpsest and its strange residents accept them or seek to harm them?
It is a book full of ornate language and rich detail. It is about loss and finding ways to belong and, possibly, to be happy. It is sort of a very grown-up take on Alice In Wonderland, dripping with beauty and menace, inhabited by unsettling yet attractive misfits.
