12-year-old Oscar is a fragile and bullied boy who finds love and revenge when he meets Eli. Eli is a beautiful but peculiar girl he befriends. She has moved into his building. Oscar does not know that she and her father are vampires. When strange disappearances and murders start happening in the town, suspicions mount from her neighbors and police. Eli must move on to stay alive or stay to help Oscar the only way she knows how.

Let the Right Version In submitted by Rich Dishman on December 12, 2009, 5:57pm This unique and beautiful work, while a completely successful horror film, is much more. The director tells the story from the point of view of 12 year old Oskar and quickly draws the viewer into his rather unhappy world. Hope arrives when a 12 year old girl named Eli moves into his apartment building. Their deepening relationship and its complications are really the driving force of the movie. The acting by the two leads is terrific. They are totally believable without being overly "cute". The movie raises many issues about the nature of the "monster" as well as the violence performed and fantasized by normal people. While the director clearly elicits sympathy for Eli, the vampire attacks are shown unflinchingly and they are scary. The course of the action leads to a surprising ending that may raise more questions than it resolves. It is one of my favorite horror films of all time, but don't let the genre tag keep you from giving this movie a try.

WARNING -- There is a little scandal associated with this movie. The subtitles on the earliest releases of the DVD were for some unknown reason dumbed down for US audiences. This led to changes from the theatrical version that really affect the tone and impact of several scenes in the movie. The good news is that so much pressure was exerted by fans that later issues have the original subtitles restored. The bad news is the copy I just watched from AADL is the altered version. The good ones say "English Theatrical" on the back. If AADL does not have one I really think you should try to rent it elsewhere. Hopefully one of their other copies is the Right One.

I tried a second time and this time it was not that bad, I was able to see the whole thing. submitted by Tassos on December 27, 2018, 10:08am Some sites recommended this as one of the top 100 dvds something, otherwise I would have never bothered borrowing it. The first time, I did not waste too much time with this DVD. I am a BIG fan of the GREAT Swedish movies like BERGMAN's, and also the "Beck" detective series on TV, but this seemed like garbage.

The second time, yesterday, I was able to watch the whole thing, and it is not bad.
