Summer Vibes submitted by Meginator on July 11, 2021, 12:44pm I was lucky enough to see My Dear Disco live around the time that they recorded this album, and (strangely for a band so reliant on electronic instrumentation) I think the studio doesn’t really do them justice. Their sound is fairly consistent and surprisingly current given the album’s age, but it relies heavily on the type of repetition that works much better at the Blind Pig or Top of the Park than it does in a cd player during quarantine. That said, the hooks are incredibly catchy and Michelle Chamuel’s strong vocals give these songs charm and power, with their upbeat blend of disco, contemporary pop, and EDM evoking a carefree, summery vibe. It’s a surprisingly unique sound, even today.
