COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Terrible sequel submitted by marielle on June 26, 2011, 12:35pm I didn't even finish this book, which was disappointing because the first book in this trilogy, Mistborn, was great. This one was incredibly boring; the main character becomes boring, her life becomes boring, her boyfriend is boring. Judging from online reviews the third book is even worse, so I would cut your losses and not bother trying to get through this one.

Great sequel submitted by kmoon3 on July 8, 2013, 10:09am In contrast to the other reviewer I quite enjoyed this book. It gets depressing somewhat since a lot of bad things happen. However that makes the payoff sweeter in the third one (which was also good) when everything gets resolved.

Amazing book submitted by ishhewitt on July 15, 2016, 10:40am This series is so wonderful. Tension building, plot continuing, characters developing.

Wonderful Book submitted by ArtGirl13 on July 30, 2016, 9:19am Like Mistborn, The Well of Ascension was an excellent book. Author Brandon Sanderson does a wonderful job combining politics, fantasy, adventure and romance. I loved this book and the others in the series and would recommend them to anyone who enjoys complex fantasy.

Excellent Sequel submitted by steveiew on June 22, 2018, 12:49pm I don't know how the reviewer at the top of the page didn't enjoy this book! It was a great continuation of the first book. Things have changed drastically but the gang is still together which means fun and adventure abound.

What happens after the revolution? submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on July 20, 2018, 11:51pm Again, at least my second time reading this book, but long enough between that I had forgotten most of everything.

The best thing about this trilogy (besides the amazing world building and characters) is that Sanderson understands that this story shouldn't be flash-bang-action for three books. The first installment was about planning and executing a revolution. Now the question is... "What happens after the revolution?" Realistically, it's not all peaches and cream from here. Who will govern and how? How will people be fed? Will ideals hold up to reality? Those who survived the revolution will be making grabs for power... what will that look like? And THEN there's the ginormous evil that has been set loose over the land.

Sanderson does a beautiful job exploring this from many different angles, adding several critical new characters and developing some old ones. Highly recommended, but definitely start with _The Final Empire_.

A good continuation submitted by bahr on July 25, 2021, 9:53pm I found that Sanderson is quite consistent in his characters and it’s clear he plans ahead. He also is great at peeling the mystery back slowly through the story. I really enjoyed this book. Don’t expect it to be the same as the first as it is a very different book thematically. In my opinion it’s worth getting through this book even if you don’t love it, to get to the third book.

A slog? NAH submitted by bookasaurusray on July 27, 2022, 5:32pm Okay, so this may be the slowest of the three books to read through, but the discourse around politic in this world is SO GOOD.
