COMMUNITY REVIEWS

I hope reading the book is better submitted by Dick on February 8, 2009, 2:43pm As someone who listens to books due to a long commute to work each day, I was excited to obtain a CD of this "Ann Arbor Reads" selection. I now know why this was easily available. It is one of those books that doesn't translate well into an audio book, not due to its content but rather its execution. First of all, none of the 12 CD's are segmented into shorter sections. Thus, if you miss something, which can happen frequently, you have to start at the beginning of the CD! Secondly, the author is the narrator of his own book. While sometimes this is a positive, Timothy Ferris should have designated an actor to read the book. Ferris can be hard to understand and tends to become softer as each sentence progresses, making me miss key words. Normally, I would skip back and re-listen but because of the lack of segmentation, I figured I would never be able to finish this book. My suggestion is to "read" this book the old-fashioned way and hope it is truly worthy of an "Ann Arbor Reads" selection!
