Unusual, but good submitted by jnfaro on July 12, 2011, 7:31pm If I had to describe Ubik, by Phillip K Dick in one word, I would undoubtably pick weird. Philip K Dick was a sufferer of Paranoid Schizophrenia, and it is obvious while reading the Ubik. Even Compared Dick's other works, Ubik stands out. It is a combination of Sci-Fi, Horror, and most interestingly, absurdist comedy. The book's main characters are locked in a world where everything they know is suddenly deteriorating, and nothing is real, even themselves. This means that the book is hard to follow, and requires the reader to be constantly be paying their full attention. It is unsettling, to say the least. While I can't honestly say that Ubik is an amazing novel, I feel like it is worth reading for its sheer uniqueness, so I give it a tentative recommendation.
