For Seasoned Jazz Fans submitted by Meginator on August 21, 2022, 6:34pm While I usually love Kenny Garrett’s recordings, this album features the type of formless solo sections that I don’t particularly enjoy and I was ultimately disappointed. That said, the core compositions are vibrant and the musical talent is undeniable, and the parts of the album where the ensemble plays in harmony and where the soloists stick to traditional rhythmic and melodic structures are quite enjoyable indeed. The album has the sense of joy and invention that can only be found in live recordings, and it’s a solid performance even if the solo stylings can sometimes be off-putting to unseasoned listeners.
